CBS news reports on Nov 12, 2019 that America’s oldest president, Jimmy Carter who recently turned 95 years old had sustained 3 falls in 2019: one in May leading to a hip fracture, one on October 6, 2019 leading to a head trauma, and third one on October 21, 2019 leading to a minor pelvic fracture. As a result of these falls President Carter had developed a “severe swelling” requiring a brain surgery to relieve the pressure from the swelling. Unfortunately President Carter had suffered some of the most feared consequences of falls, which include wrist fractures, shoulder fractures, nose and dental trauma, in addition to hip fractures and brain injury. 95% of hip fractures are caused by falls. Falls are the number one cause of brain injury in the older adults.
